COLOR TRENDS:
So what are the color trends now a days?
Ever wonder what determines the "FABRIC" of trend...at least in this field of interior design.
Read the newspaper…find out what is happening in the world…find out the ease or the tide of the world economy, social envelope and the ecological situation.
What is the trend now days in design?
What are people drawn to?
In a relatively young city but still ranked the most multicultural city in the world, people are planting their “new roots” seeded from the countries their parents came from-each with their own culture to represent coming here with a sort of “city etiquette”…being well mannered, socially constrained and “polite”.
Last night I was with a friend of mine downtown- where she just bought a 1/2mill. Condo.
As she was getting into her parking space another neighbor was parking their car and my friend nonchalantly went up to him and said “hello my name is…and I am your neightbor”…after the shock of her actually doing that, the gentleman looked at her and said ”are you from Toronto?...”.
That is how the city has trained people to think …brrr… to be cold.
I don’t think people have realized just yet that just because you are friendly it doesn’t mean that you are naïve and just because you are cold it means you are protected….i digress….what are people looking for in this -30 digress Celsius interaction when it comes to their homes and trend and design?
People’s subconscious is looking for some sort of warmth and are doing so by investing into the number one format to be part of “the city life” , and that is to buy a condo.
How can you buy a condo with warmth?...
How can you purchase a 1200sq. ft space that is warm-all it is, is bare walls, floors and openings to the outside world?(windows)…I will tell you how.
With a STORY.
Why do you think people are resorting to these spaces that all runned down, looked unfinished and have cracks that can inhabit a number of species of insects???
Because it is a story, a part of his-STORY.
It is so trendy now for people to say that they live in what once used to be a 30,00sq.ft machine filled sweet smelling chocolate factory.
So what has this got to do with the economy?
The human race is at a stand point and on the fence with what is right and wrong and asking so many questions that this in itself is becoming its own cult…of WHO ARE WE, WHAT KIND OF INDIVIDUALS ARE WE…a time of “individualism”…its all about you and how you alone contribute to the world without a belonging nor connection to what once was? Which isn’t really an issue considering the fact that we have been asking that question for as far as we can remember…I digress.
So how does that translate to colors?
Fundamentalism is either right or wrong, east or west, us or them…black or w hite.
SO what color lies in the questions of not knowing and starting form the middle of the past and the future and being in the NOW?…it is the GREY era.
Grey is rough… in transition in between place and space, where am I going and what am I holding onto?
I want to be as raw as the materials around me.
Though I want to be an individual and find out who I AM I still want to be a part of something bigger than me…his-STORY…how ironic is that. Disconnect in a connected fashion…hmmm-possiblity?
We are all enjoying our factoried old renovated lofts because they are our physical connection to a time we didn’t know but would love to feel that we belonged to and that we are carrying into the future like a baton in a relay race.
It is in a sense the ultimate way to REUSE.
I love our Toronto.
A baby city with so much character and personality filled with its colors of cultures and trends and questions always ready for innovation.
So if you want to know what the trend will be for your home in 2 years…speak to a financial analyst and you will watch how that cycle will be visually transformed into color , style and physical matter.
Until next time…don’t forget that you are the now-STORY of your life.
